Could I became an artist?

Introduction

Susan Santos only started painting in 2024. Although she always had a love for art and paintings, she did not consider herself very good at hand drawing. She is an architect and lives in Tennessee with her husband and two teenage kids. In our conversation she talks about her prophetic art painting process.

Question: Tells us briefly about yourself and how you came to know Jesus?

Answer: I am originally from Brazil and was born and raised in a Christian home. I accepted Jesus when I was eight, but it was not until middle school that I started taking my relationship with Jesus more seriously. Over the years, my friendship with Him has deepened as He has always been with me as I struggled, as I learned from Him, and today I am so Thankful that He is my King and best friend.

Question: When and how did you start painting prophetic art?

Answer: Our church started having people paint during worship services, and although their art always caught my attention, I did not think it was something that I would do. But during one of our youth conferences, there were specific stations throughout the sanctuary for youth to draw, to dance with flags, to write verses, to pray. And as I observed them, the Lord gave me a verse and told me to draw what He was showing me. That night, He told me He wanted me to start painting. It still took me a couple months after to finally get some canvas, paint and brushes. But that is how all started.

Question: What does your process of painting looks like?

Answer: Most of the time the inspiration or image comes during my time with the Lord. Sometimes is during my personal time with Him, sometimes is during a worship service.

I do not usually pray for Him to show me, but as I am praising or praying or reading the Word, He shows me an image or He will give me a thought. When He does, I usually take time to remain in His presence and take in what He is showing me. That same day, I try writing down a description of what He showed me, but the process of drawing and painting for me comes later.

Question: Could you share the process of a recent piece you painted?

Answer: The Father has called me out to some changes in my work and to focus in working with underserved communities and outreach. This past December as I have been seeking Him for guidance, He led me to Isaiah 61:1 TPT "The might Spirit of the Lord YAHWEH is wrapped around me because YAHWEH has anointed me to preach good news to the poor."

As I have been declaring this chapter daily He showed me this image of me standing in front of Him and out of his mouth anointing oil was flowing over my head. So I started with a sketch of what He showed me.

From sketch to painting the Process for me is a conversation with Jesus and the Holy Spirit is my teacher. While sketching or painting, I usually put on worship music, and while I am praising, listening, we are talking. When I am unsure on how to do something, I ask Him and He gently guides me, gives me thoughts, additional clarity on the image, colors, brushes to use. I talk to Him and ask Him about everything as I am working on it. These have been the sweetest moments I have experienced in His presence.

For this piece, I thought I was done, and then he gave me additional clarity on what He had showed me. so after a few days, I returned to the painting and added the "fog" effect which is also something I had never done before. Again I asked how and He guided me on how to do it.

Question: What would be your advice for someone who is unsure about starting to paint or trying a new media?

Answer: If the Father is putting a desire on your heart and is asking you do to it, just obey. The Holy Spirit is the best teacher, and He will guide you as you seek Him and listen to His leading. In your obedience and leaning on Him, you will experience Him in a deeper way. And what He wants to share through you can not be done by anyone else.

Thank you for sharing with us and we look forward to seeing additional pieces as the Father continues to share and guide you.
